Etsy Quilts Make Great Gifts

Susan

Handmade quilts are like your favorite pair of jeans, they just seem to make you feel good all over. I love gifting quilts to friends and family, I enjoy the journey – the process of creating a beautiful quilt, and the joy it brings to others just makes it all worth while. Quilts are a treasure, and when they are handmade with love and care in every stitch, you know you have something truly special.

I made a wonderful discovery before the Christmas holiday … Quilters on Etsy. Because we are in transition, and in the process of a new home build in the Blue Ridge Mountains, all of my sewing studio equipment, tables, machines, and fabric, are stuck in storage. It was a bummer too, as I love making quilts as gifts. However, it was Etsy to the rescue, and some wonderful quilts were found to be just the answer to my gift giving this past year.

So, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite quilters on Etsy, and give you a firsthand look at some of the beautiful quilts that are available from these creative individuals.

Just so you know, some of these quilts can be very pricey, while others are priced very low. It all depends on the quilter. Just know that fabric is very expensive, as is batting, backing fabric, thread, etc. Consider the time it takes to make the more complicated quilts, and you will understand why some are priced in the hundreds of dollars. I’ve easily spent $350 or more on fabric to make a queen size quilt, and the time it takes just to finish the quilt top is something that should be a consideration as well.

Always check the Star Rating of any quilt seller on Etsy. Read the Reviews. Look closely at the photos for each quilt. Message the shop owner with questions you may have. Quilts can be an investment, so look carefully. On Etsy, you will find sellers of quilts made in other countries. This is fine, just look closely as some are selling multiple quilts in one lot, and they are your 30 minute quilt craft if you know what I mean. I learned a lot from my Etsy experience in November 2022. Being a quilter myself, I have a pretty good eye for nice quilts. These are not competition quilts; however, if you look carefully, you just may find a quilt that you will treasure, or one that will make the perfect gift.
